One of the things I love about hosting guests is seeing the city through the eyes of first-time visitors.
This week I’ve got two friends over from London, and we took them up to The View, the rooftop bar on the fifth floor of the Rufus & Bee building, for drinks and a look out across Lagos.
Like so many guests, they keep saying the same thing: Lagos is nothing like they imagined.
What has struck them most is how welcoming, kind and joyful people are. They’ve loved the energy, the warmth and the sheer life of the city — and at no point have they felt unsafe.
The traffic is another matter. Lagos roads can be wonderfully chaotic, and both have concluded that they’re very happy for someone else to do the driving!
That’s really what we are all about: showing people the Lagos I know — not the version they may have imagined from thousands of miles away, but a huge, exciting, friendly city full of unexpected places and experiences.
And preferably with a good rooftop bar at the end of the day. 🇳🇬🍸
